Paula Badosa admitted she didn’t expect to start her season against a star player like Victoria Azarenka but added that she is ready for the challenge. Badosa, who captured her maiden Masters title at the Indian Wells Masters two months ago, drew Azarenka in the Adelaide first round.
Badosa didn’t get to rest much after the 2021 season as she featured at the WTA Finals, where she made the semifinal. “The offseason has been short but it was intense. I love Australia and I’m quite excited to start the year.
I’ll have a really tough first match against Azarenka, I wasn’t expecting a match like that to start, but to win a tournament you have to beat the best players,” Badosa said, per Lorenzo Ercoli.
Badosa completely dedicated and committed to tennis
Badosa now doesn’t have much time for the things she used to do but it’s the pay the price she needed to pay in order to be successful.
“You leave many things behind, yes, but you make up for it with the successes you have, winning tournaments, playing good games, enjoying the day to day. I am lucky that I really like tennis, I enjoy competing and I also enjoy training, being in the world of tennis, the tennis life,” Badosa told Mundo Deportivo.
“I take it as part of our life as an athlete. There are days when I haven’t had time to be on the couch for more than half an hour, I haven’t stopped, but it’s my job. In the end it may be ten very intense days, training to the maximum and at the same time having to face other commitments.
They are working twenty-four hours, but it is the price when there is success.” Badosa enjoyed a strong end to the 2021 season and she made it clear her goal for 2022 is to win a Grand Slam.
