Six unbeaten fighters remained hard at work through the holidays to do their job at the scale.
All participants made weight for the first ShoBox card of 2022, which airs Friday evening on Showtime from Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida. Headlining the show, Dominican Republic’s Luis ‘The Twist’ Nunez faces Puerto Rico’s Carlos Arrieta in a scheduled ten round contest that was bumped up to the junior lightweight division during fight week.
Nunez (15-0, 11KOs) weighed 128 ¼ pounds for his second straight ShoBox appearance, which also represents his second career fight in the United States and outside of D.R. Arrieta (14-0, 8KOs) weighed 129 ¼ pounds for his Showtime debut, as well as his first fight in 14 months.
The event comes 15 weeks after Nunez earned a ten-round shutout win over Jayvon Garrett in his previous ShoBox outing last September 24 in Broken Arrow, Oklahama. The 22-year-old from Santo Domingo celebrated the win with his trademark ‘Twist’ dance to the classic hit by the legendary Chubby Checkers, alongside promoter Sampson Lewkowicz.
Two of Nunez’s stablemates grace the televised undercard in separate bouts.
Unbeaten rising lightweight Starling Castillo (16-0, 12KOs) collides with Otar Eranosyan (10-0, 6KOs) in a scheduled eight-round contest. Santo Domingo’s Castillo weighed 134 ¾ pounds while Eranosyan—an aggressively moved Georgian prospect now based out of Miami Beach—was right at the 135-pound limit.
Opening the tripleheader, Santo Domingo’s Edwin De Los Santos (13-0, 12KOs) weighed 129 pounds for his U.S. debut in a scheduled eight-round junior lightweight bout versus New Haven’s William Foster III (13-0, 9KOs) who was 129 ½ pounds.
