HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women’s Tennis program announced its 2022 spring schedule on Wednesday. The spring stint will feature eight home matches and 13 road trips for the Cougars.
“The team is back on campus with high spirits and is eager to compete,” said Head Coach Helena Besovic. “The schedule this season will give us an opportunity to face quality opponents and climb in the national rankings.”
Houston will begin its spring schedule on Jan. 22 traveling to Texas A&M to take on the Aggies. Following the road trip, the Cougars will be home at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility to face Lamar on Jan. 23, Louisiana Monroe Jan. 28, and McNeese State on Jan. 29.
The first three matches in February will include travel to TCU, Colorado and Alabama followed by a Feb. 13 home double-header against Southern University and Prairie View A&M. With a quick travel to Texas Tech on Feb. 18, Houston will then return home on Feb. 26 to face UTSA and Northwestern on Feb. 28.
The month of March will include travel to SMU, UTA, and FAU before Houston finishes its home matches for the spring against Tulane on March 19. Before entering into conference tournament competition, the Cougars will travel to USF, FIU, Wichita State, North Texas, and finally city-rival Rice throughout the end of March and beginning of April.
The American Athletic Conference Tournament will take place April 20-23 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. Following the fight for a conference title, Houston will then set its sights on the NCAA Championships. The tournament will take place May 19-28 held in Orlando and Champaign, Ill.
“Last year, we had a good run to the semifinals of the conference tournament and are looking forward to having another successful season,” stated Besovic. “Our goal is to finish the season strong and healthy and make it to the NCAA tournament.”
Fans can attend all home matches free of charge with no student ticket claim necessary.
