Marco Silva has said he wants to keep Alfie Mawson at Fulham this month despite links with Birmingham City.
Mawson, 27, has made only one league start this season behind first choice duo Tosin Adarabioyo and Tim Ream, while he also faces competition from Michael Hector.
The former Swansea centre-half has six months left on his contract at Fulham, however head coach Silva wants to keep four central defenders, while allowing Terence Kongolo to go out on loan.
“Alfie is our player, we will keep our player I hope,” said Silva.
“We have four central defenders, plus Terence Kongolo, who, as you know, we are trying to find a solution for him to go on loan. We want to keep the four central defenders.
“Of course if you ask me that Alfie and (Michael Hector want to play more, of course (they do), but football is like that. The other two are having a very very, good season. They have to keep fighting to get the chance, and when the chance is there, to perform in the right way.”
