Canelo Alvarez is in the process of finalizing his plans for 2022. Alvarez and Eddie Hearn are on the verge of completing a two-fight mega-deal with Matchroom Boxing, according to reports. The deal would pay Canelo as much as $85 million to fight on DAZN, and would see him take the ring next in May for a bout with Dmitry Bivol. Should he win the fight against Bivol, Alvarez would be scheduled for a highly-c0veted September trilogy fight with Gennadiy Golovkin, per Mike Coppinger.

The first fight of the year for Canelo would take place on May 7 against Bivol. The pair would fight at 175 lbs, and if Alvarez won the bout, he’d then face Golovkin in a trilogy fight on Sept. 17 at 168 lbs. The trilogy fight with GGG also depends on Golovkin defeating Ryoto Murata when they take the ring this year.
Alvarez boasts an impressive career record of 57-1-2 with 39 KOs. Despite being the world’s No. 1 boxer, there are many who believe Bivol is the boxer most capable of delivering an upset to the Mexican superstar, adding intrigue to the potential May 7 showdown.
Canelo is said to be mulling the Matchroom Boxing offer with a one-fight deal proposed to him by PBC, worth a reported $45 million in guaranteed money. PBC’s offer would see Alvarez fight Jermall Charlo on May 7. Last year, Alvarez fought and defeated Caleb Plant in an 11th-round TKO while under a one-fight contract from PBC. He was reportedly awarded around $40 million for winning the bout.
Back in 2018, Alvarez signed a massively lucrative 11-fight deal with DAZN. However, just three fights into his contract, Canelo filed a lawsuit against former promoter Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN, and was subsequently released from his contract.
