WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State women’s golf head coach Tom McCurdy announced the signing of Mackenzie Wilson to a National Letter of Intent Friday morning.
“Mackenzie Wilson is going to be a great addition to our women’s golf program,” McCurdy said. “I am so excited that she chose Wichita State. Mackenzie is really talented and has a very deep skill-set. Her wealth of big tournament experience will be a huge asset for her as an incoming freshman. Her competitive mindset is elite and she knows how to make birdies. Mackenzie will have an immediate impact on our golf program.”
A Hobart, Tasmania, Australia native Wilson attended Rosny College in Tasmania, Australia. She is currently ranked No. 5 in the women’s amateur ranking, and recently competed in the Victorian Open, a highly-regarded annual tournament in Australia. She recorded seven birdies in the third round of the Vic Open. Wilson was the Tasmanian Amateur Champion in 2020 and Junior Masters Champion in 2019 with a low round of 7-under par. She is a two-time Royal Hobart Club Champion (2020, 2021), three-time Judy Elphinstone Club Champion (2019, 2020, 2021) and the 2020 Women’s Southern Open Champion. In 2018, she represented Australia at the Annika Invitational. Wilson tied the Tasmania Golf Club course record of 7-under par, which has been held since 1987. She was also a two-time composite junior interstate team member in 2018 and 2019, and was named team captain in 2019. In the classroom, Wilson has an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank of 92.05, which is in the Top 8 percent in Australia.
She is the daughter of Kier and Melanie Wilson, and has one brother, Riley. She plans to major in economics at Wichita State.
