CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) – The ongoing lockout between the MLB and its players union has already put a delay on the start of Spring Training. However, the lockout won’t have any impact on the Cedar Rapids Kernels welcoming fans back for the 2022 season.
Opening night for the Kernels is set for Friday, April 8th at 6:35 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Kernels will play the Beloit Snappers out of Wisconsin.
The MLB gave Kernels notice that opening night wouldn’t be effected. Players on the active 40-man MLB roster are not eligible to play in the minors during the lockout. However, all other players not on that roster are eligible to play with the MiLB.
None of the players currently on the Kernels are a part of the MLB Players Association or are on any active 40-man MLB rosters. They’re all preparing for the 2022 season at Spring Training.
Single-game tickets will start going on sale March 14th and the Kernels full promotional schedule with theme nights and daily specials will be released March 1st. To stay up to date on the latest information regarding the 2022 Cedar Rapids Kernels season, click here.
