The afterglow of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Monday night win over the Cleveland Browns was all about the revelry surrounding Ben Roethlisberger’s presumed final home game at Heinz Field. The game itself, from Pittsburgh’s perspective, was very much about the burgeoning presence of running back Najee Harris and the dominance of pass rusher T.J. Watt. Tucked behind all those storylines was the continued and historic statistical success of head coach Mike Tomlin. By virtue of Pittsburgh’s 26-14 victory, Tomlin was ensured of a 15th straight season finishing at .500 or above. It is the longest such streak to begin a head…

This day in Los Angeles Dodgers history saw the team become the first in MLB history to purchase their own aircraft for player travel on Jan. 4, 1957. The Dodgers, who were in Brooklyn at the time, purchased a Convair 440 two-engine airplane for more than $700,000, which had room for 44 passengers. Before the Dodgers bought their new team plane, they primarily used trains for transportation between cities. They also owned a 20-seat DC-3 given to them by Bud Holman, who was a director for the team in Brooklyn and L.A. The Dodgers owned the DC-3 from 1949-1957 but…

By Daniele D’Alessio: According to Kalle Sauerland, Luis Ortiz (33-2, 28 KOs) has rejected his IBF final eliminator against Filip Hrgovic (14-0, 12 KOs). The opportunity has been offered to Joseph Parker (30-2, 21 KOs) instead who is next in line. Ortiz recently stopped Charles Martin (28-3-1, 25 KOs) in the sixth round to move up the IBF rankings and post-fight claimed he was willing to fight any heavyweight to capture the title. However, the 42-year-old now wants no part of Hrgovic who he would have to beat for a shot at the world championship. The heavy-hitting Croatian is an…
