    Tennis Wins Over USF in Tampa

    TAMPA – UNT Tennis (7-3) beat future American Conference rival South Florida in Tampa at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts on Sunday. The Mean Green played a hard-fought match complete with third sets and tiebreakers all around.
     
    DOUBLES

    SINGLES

    • Devier struggled to find her footing in set one but evening the playing field in set two. With a score of 6-6 Devier went into a tiebreaker and fought until the last moment, she ultimately fell 8-6.
    • Adams breezed through her first set winning 6-2. She quickly claimed a second point for UNT with a 6-4 win in set two.
    • Vehvilainen battled through her first set winning in dramatic fashion 7-5. She kept the momentum alive in set two winning 6-3 and picking the Mean Green up the winning point.
    • Oyama put up a fight in set one but fell 6-4, she recovered in set two winning 6-4. The third set which remained unfinished left Laura Pellicer up 1-0.
    • Ponomareva slipped in her first set 6-3 but bounced back 6-4 in set two forcing and third set. The match remained unfinished with Ponomareva up 0-1.
    • Zhou kept ahead in both sets of her singles match winning both with a score of 6-4.

    QUOTABLE

    • “Today was a great day for our team and we definitely learned our lesson from Friday’s loss.” Said freshman Liisa Vehvilainen. “Today we stepped up, had great transference of energy, and supported each other no matter what. I am excited for the next week’s two conference matches and believe we are going to do great things!”

    • Mean Green tennis comes home for a pair of conference matchups. They will face Marshall on Friday at 2 P.M. and FIU on Sunday at 12 P.M. CT.
