NFL world reacts to frustrating Jimmy Johnson news

    June 27, 2022No Comments

The Dallas Cowboys were one of the best NFL teams of the 1990s, winning three Super Bowls in that decade.  A big part of that success came from Jimmy Johnson, who coached the team from 1989 to 1993 and took one of the worst teams in the league and turned them into two-time champions.

Cowboys fans have been waiting for Johnson to rightfully be placed into the team’s Ring of Honor, but that hasn’t happened to this point. Dallas owner Jerry Jones discussed the possibility during his Hall of Fame induction last year, assuring fans that Johnson would be inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor.

It seems that he has changed his tune a bit, as he discussed the topic earlier this month and did not sound nearly as committed.

“Nothing determined out there at all. That’s something that I’ve never really decided upon almost until a week or two before I do it,” said Jones. “That’s something that I never really decided upon almost until a week or two before I do it. Obviously, the people that are qualified are career-qualified, that is a career process, but as far as the timing of any individual that will ultimately be in that Hall of Fame—I don’t have that timeframe.”

This quote from Jones has clearly angered Cowboys fans, who believe that this is an example of Jones’s ego taking over instead of doing what is right.

Ya know…..Jerry has ran alotta miles off of the rings Jimmy won. He owes him better than this https://t.co/dzo89gyKuj

Give an ounce of credit to the man responsible for the only success you’ve EVER had as an owner? Preposterous!!! https://t.co/rgL6YQgmkG

This is why it’s hard to support the Cowboys and the Jones’. Complete nonsense and it won’t stop once Jerry is no longer at the helm. Tragic https://t.co/1fbXJHoUTM

Johnson notably parted ways with the Cowboys after the team’s Super Bowl in 1993, due in large part to his fractured relationship with Jones. The owner even hired Johnson’s college football rival, Barry Switzer, to replace him.

Jones, by his own accord, messed up the relationship between himself and Johnson, but it appears that he’s still not ready to entirely lets bygones be bygones.
