Teutopolis claimed the St. Anthony/Teutopolis Soccer Tournament championship.
The Wooden Shoes of Teutopolis claimed the championship of the St. Anthony/Teutopolis Soccer Tournament during the weekend.
The event ran Tuesday and Thursday and finished out Saturday. Saturday’s scores at St. Anthony were Greenville 2, Altamont 1; Salem 4, St. Anthony 0; Harrisburg and Greenville played to a 3-3 tie; Mount Carmel 6, Robinson 2 and Pinckneyville 2, St. Anthony 1. Scores at Teutopolis were Newton 9, Robinson 0; Teutopolis 4, Mount Carmel 0; Newton 4, Pinckneyville 1; Altamont and Salem played to a 0-0 tie and Teutopolis and Harrisburg played to a 1-1 tie.
In the match against Mount Carmel, goals for the Shoes were scored by Josh Habing, Nolan Runde, Carter Davidson and Ethan Thoele. In the 1-1 tie against Harrisburg, T-town’s goal was scored by Joey Niebrugge.
Teutopolis finished first followed by Newton, Harrisburg, Greenville, Salem, Mount Carmel, Robinson, Pinckneyville, Altamont and St. Anthony.
The Shoes won the tourney by a goal differential and move to 3-0-1 on the season. They are back in action Tuesday at Charleston with a 4:30 p.m. start.
Effingham finished out with two losses at the Charleston Red & Gold Tournament Saturday.
The Hearts fell to Charleston, 4-1. Scoring the Hearts’ goal was Maicol Sefton on a penalty kick.
“We held great possession throughout the game and played well as a team,” said Coach Logan Arney. “Seeing a lot of great irmprovement as a team.”
Arthur Christian then defeated the Hearts, 4-1. The goal was again scored by Sefton with an assist by Marc Asejo.
“Marc sent a great ball to Maicol to run onto it, sending the ball near post for a goal,” said Coach Arney. “Playing two games in one day is always tough, but continue to see improvement from the team.”
The first home game for the Hearts is Tuesday aginast St. Anthony with a 4 p.m. start.
