    BOISE, Idaho – Boise State men’s tennis split a pair of mini duals on Sunday to take second and third place at the 2022 Dar Walters Classic held at the Appleton Tennis Center.
     
    Overall, the Broncos went 5-2 at the tournament where the competition was played in a two-member team format where the duo played one doubles and two singles matches against an opponent with the team winning two of the three points advancing in the tournament.
     
    Sunday had both Boise State teams playing in the top two matches. The tandem of Sam Sippel and Michael Bott reached the final where they lost to Idaho’s team of Francisco Bascon and Taiyo Kurata 3-0. The Vandals won the doubles match 6-4, then followed with victories in both singles contests. Sippel and Bott finished the weekend at 2-1 overall to finish second.
     
    Boise State’s Ryo Minakata and James Van Herzeele swept their three contests to win the third-place match 3-0 over Idaho’s Bruno Casino and Matteo Masala. Minakata and Van Herzeele opened by taking the doubles point 6-4. They then claimed both singles matches in straight sets with Minakata winning 6-0, 7-6(5) over Masala while Van Herzeele beat Casino 6-4, 7-5.
     
    WHAT’S NEXT

    • The Broncos will take next weekend off from competition while they prepare for the ITA Mountain Region Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., Oct. 13-17.
