Many believed the incident between Draymond Green and Jordan Poole was caused by their upcoming contract extensions and the disparity in their compensation when TMZ published a video of it.
The 2022–23 season will be the halfway point of Poole and Green’s current contracts. Poole is still under the terms of his rookie deal and will make $3.9 million this year. Meanwhile Green will make $25.8 million thanks to his almost $100 million extension.
Poole is applying for a rookie extension and, according to Spotrac. It is qualified for the maximum award of $188 million over five years, or $32.45 million on average. The starting salary for Draymond Green’s deal, covering the following season, would be roughly $164 million.
For anyone making assumptions about hostility, if Poole receives the maximum deal. He would earn more than Draymond Green over the course of the next seven years. It was then Green did over the course of his last two contracts (’15-’19 and ’19-’24).

However, Green properly addressed the allegations during a news conference. He said that the contracts had “absolutely nothing to do with anything.”
“First of all, I can guarantee you that I do not count pockets. Therefore, that’s not something I would start doing. And the way I was trained, to do so would be to disparage the circumstances of another guy. Simply said, you wouldn’t do it.”
Added, “One thing I can promise you is that it had nothing to do with anything at all. I believe that I am a profoundly imperfect human being. And that no one knows my defects better than I do.”
Green has had a number of unpleasant encounters with teammates in the past, with Kevin Durant being the most noteworthy. One of the key reasons KD left Golden State was said to be the altercation between Durant and Green.
The Warriors’ future lies with the core six, led by Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson

The triumvirate that has represented the Golden State Warriors for the past ten years has become less dependable with each passing year. This is not to argue that Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, or Stephen Curry have “dropped off,” but rather that they are becoming more prone to injuries.
Draymond Green would have had a very serious chance to win his second Defensive Player of the Year title had it not been for the back ailment that sidelined him for a substantial portion of the 2022–23 regular season.
Returning after a two-year absence, Klay did regain his offensive rhythm, but he acknowledged that his defensive play needed a lot of work. Stephen Curry endured a historic slump the whole season, and as a result, he had his first season with at least 50 games played with a three-point percentage below 41%.
Maybe this explains why Kerr emphasized the idea of a fundamental six. The aforementioned trio, along with Kevon Looney, Andrew Wiggins, and Jordan Poole, make up the fundamental six. The Warriors may be a dominant force for many years to come with Kuminga, Moses Moody, and James Wiseman waiting in the wings.
