Marshall, Mo., (Nov. 2, 2022)- The Missouri Valley College men’s soccer team stayed in the top ten of the latest NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, released Wednesday.
The Vikings remained at No. 9 for the third-straight week after going 2-0 in games played during the latest ratings period. The team topped Park (Mo.), 3-1, and followed with a 2-0 win over Culver-Stockton (Mo.). The victory over Culver-Stockton allowed the team to capture a share of the Heart of America Athletic Conference regular season title. Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Nationally ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan did not factor into the current coaches’ poll.
Two other programs from the Heart are featured in the coaches’ poll. Central Methodist (Mo.) dropped to No. 3, and MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) remained at No. 11. The Vikings are 1-3-1 against ranked teams this season. Missouri Valley defeated No. 14 Oklahoma Wesleyan, 3-0. The losses came to No. 2 Mid-America Christian (Okla.), 1-0, No. 3 Central Methodist, 2-1, and No. 11 MNU, 2-1. The team played No. 16 Columbia (Mo.) to a 1-1 tie.
The Missouri Valley men’s soccer program has now been ranked in 30-straight coaches’ polls, dating back to the 2019 season. The team is 13-3-1 overall and finished conference play with a 10-2 record.
Next is postseason play for the men’s soccer team, as the No. 2 seed in the Heart Postseason Tournament. Missouri Valley will host No. 7 seed William Penn (Iowa), Saturday at 1 p.m., inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium. The Vikings topped the Statesmen on the road, 3-1, back on Oct. 1.
