    Xinyu Wang bows out in Hobart quarter-finals

    Chinese lucky loser Xinyu Wang went down to American qualifier Lauren Davis 6-3, 6-3 at the WTA Hobart International on Thursday.

    Davis, ranked No 84, will face Russian qualifier Anna Blinkova next.

    Ahead of her victory, the American won against No 4 seed Sloane Stephens (6-2, 6-2) and Belgian Ysaline Bonaventure (7-6 (1), 6-3).

    Wang, ranked No 89, beat Australian wildcard Olivia Gadecki (6-4, 7-5) and Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck (7-5, 4-6, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Hobart tournament.

    Hobart WTA 250, other quarter-final results (Domain Tennis Centre, hard, USD 259.303, most recent results first):

    • Anna Blinkova beat Yulia Putintseva (8): 6-3, 6-4
    • Sofia Kenin (WC) beat Anhelina Kalinina (5): 4-6, 6-3, 6-1
    • Elisabetta Cocciaretto beat Bernarda Pera (6): 5-7, 7-6 (8), 6-4
